Peter Crouch has finally revealed the identity of the infamous ‘Parched’ on his podcast
‘Parched’ was a reference to a Stoke City player who would talk to the manager at drinks break
And Crouch has revealed that former Stoke City team-mate Charlie Adam was the player coined with the nickname during their seven years together at the Potters.
‘There’s one player that will remain nameless – I’m not saying the club, when I say remain nameless they always try to get it out me – we decided to call him Parched’, Crouch said.
‘When we were doing pre-season training it was intense, really intense, and after you’ve done your running or training everyone would go over for a drink, knackered, and drink loads of water. It was roasting hot, you’d done a load of work.
‘We’d look over and Parched would be sitting with the coaching staff. He’s not had a drink. Every drinks break we’ve had he’d be around the manager, chatting to him about tactics or just getting him on side.’

The former England striker said Adam would talk to the manager about tactics during a break
Reading midfielder Adam was totally unaware that he had been given a nickname by his former team-mates at Stoke, where he and Crouch spent seven years together, but soon cottoned on that his old colleagues may have been poking fun at him.
The former Scotland international, a guest on the most recent podcast, shared his thoughts on his nickname.
‘The only reason I’ve found out is that some guy at Reading came up to me, some groundsman, and he said to me, “Who’s Parched on Crouchy’s podcast?” and I’ve went “What? I don’t have a clue mate. You’re talking s***e whatever it is”’, he said.
Adam, who now plays for Reading, said he was totally unaware of his popular nickname
”’I think it’s you” [he said], “Well, it’s definitely not me.” Then my mate text me saying: “You know you’re even money for this Parched on Crouchy’s podcast?”
‘I said “What? Even money? Let me text Crouchy and see what it is.” So I’m on the phone and I text Crouchy, “Listen big man, what is this Parched all about? People keep asking me.” He went “Well… There’s good and bad news.”
‘No, I never knew,’ Adam said. ‘Seven, eight years I was at Stoke and you were caning me behind my back. I didn’t have a clue and now I’m actually paranoid in my head about it.’
It was a blockbuster podcast this week, with the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Loyd Grossman and Kasabian guitarist Serge Pizzorno all making guest appearances.
