Manchester United and Barcelona have made proposals to Timo Werner ahead of the summer — but he is waiting to see whether Liverpool make a move, according to reports.

Werner is understood to be a target for Jurgen Klopp‘s side as they look to rejuvenate their squad in the summer window, although he is also coveted by a number of the top teams in Europe.

He made it clear last week after he helped RB Leipzig to a win over Spurs that he was keen to move there. It has long been claimed he has a £51million release clause in his deal but according to German outlet Sport1 he is actually available for £30m.

‘I know that Liverpool is the best team at the moment in the world and when you are linked with that team it makes me very proud,’ Werner said.

Now according to the Athletic, Werner is waiting to see whether Liverpool move for him.

The release clause has to be activated before a deadline in April.

This is intended to give the Germans enough time to plan to replace him ahead of next season.

If Klopp intends to move for Werner, he will likely make a move in the middle of March, with the German considering his attacking options for next season. Both the Olympic Games and the Africa Cup of Nations could have an impact on his squad.

Werner would not be a replacement for Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane or Roberto Firmino but instead provide additional competition.

The 23-year-old, who has scored 28 goals this season, has issues with both Barcelona and United, with both at recent low ebbs.

While he does not want to spend his prime years battling Salah and Mane for starts, he admitted: ‘I know that Liverpool play a lot of good players and I have to improve myself and I need to learn many more things to get to that level and to play there.’
