The castle, 14 miles from the city of Bath, dates back to 1835 and had originally been a lodge for nearby country pile Rood Ashton House.

It is described as a folly, with the listing stating it ‘was not built as a fortification’.

The property is set in two acres of grounds and has six double bedrooms in the main building, including one in the Rapunzel tower, and another two double beds in the clockhouse.

One recent guest who stayed at the castle called Zuzana wrote on Airbnb: ‘Amazing castle! We were a group of 13 and there was enough space for everyone. It was a great space for a gathering.’

Linda said: ‘An absolutely bonkers amazing place! It was perfect for a big family get together at Christmas – great fun for all generations.’

While Allen added: ‘We will be going back and I can’t recommend the castle enough!’
