Supermarket Aldi have unveiled their new Christmas advert, which sees the highly-anticipated return of Kevin the Carrot as he escapes a gang of Brussels sprouts.

The nation’s favourite festive hero has returned in a 70-second clip for the discount store’s campaign, following the release of a teaser trailer last week.

The advert sees Kevin flee from the clutches of new characters the ‘Leafy Blinders’ – and put on an extraordinary Greatest Showman inspired Christmas show set to a festive edition of Robbie Williams hit Let Me Entertain You.

The film begins with Russell Sprout and his Brummy mob, angry about the news of Kevin’s forthcoming Christmas extravaganza.

The group of sprouts – wearing tweed caps much like the characters in TV series Peaky Blinders – are seen shouting at Kevin in the street, as he struggles while tied to a cheese grater.

Russell then throws Tiny Tom, a tomato, towards Kevin – who helps him get free by gnawing through the ropes, allowing the carrot to run away from the angry sprouts.

The vegetable then runs over to a lit up big top, which is already bursting with cheering audience members, and he begins his show.

Wearing a top hat and red overcoat similar to that of Hugh Jackman in musical film ‘The Greatest Showman’, he begins a rendition of Robbie Williams’ ‘Let Me Entertain You’.

As the carrot begins dancing on a table surrounded by mince pies, three presumably non-evil Brussels swing on the trapeze above him alongside Tom and Kevin’s carrot wife Katie.

Katie is dressed in a pink leotard with a head of pastel purple hair, similar to that of acrobat Anne Wheeler, played by Zendaya, in the same 2017 musical.

Kevin continues to serenade his fellow vegetables on a table bursting with festive food, as his three carrot children also make an appearance dressed as Santa Clause.

In a twist, Russell Sprout returns, but he is quickly captured and fired off into the sky by Kevin from a cannon.

The trailer ends with the carrot family, posing happily outside their Christmas tree shaped tent having defeated the Brussels sprout gangster.

Sean McGinty, Marketing Director at Aldi UK, said: ‘We’re all thrilled to see Kevin back on our screens again, getting up to his usual tricks.

‘Kevin’s popularity grows every year and he’s becoming something of a national treasure!

‘Kevin’s magical Big Top is the perfect environment to showcase the amazing quality of the Aldi Christmas range of food and drink this year.’

The nation first fell in love with Kevin in 2016 when he graced TV screens as part of Aldi’s Christmas campaign – and have loved the vegetable ever since.

Fans last week were over the moon to see a glimpse of him in Friday’s teaser, in which Russel Sprout ominously warned he was ‘here to take back Christmas’, on a newspaper page scattered on the cobbles.
