Barcelona ‘will NOT unveil Antoine Griezmann in front of fans amid fear of backlash
Barcelona will NOT unveil Antoine Griezmann in front of fans at Nou Camp if £108m deal goes through ‘as they fear backlash after Atletico Madrid transfer saga’
- Antoine Griezmann will not be unvielled to fans if he signs for Barcelona
- The forward is expected to seal his long-awaited £108m move to Nou Camp
- Pitch will be relayed on date of Griezmann’s unveiling so no fans can watch
The Frenchman is expected to seal his protracted move to Barcelona, which could be completed as early as next week, providing the La Liga champions pay his £108million release clause in full.
Griezmann had angered a large section of Barcelona supporters after having a change of heart last summer, rejecting a move to instead sign a new long-term deal at Atletico.
Barcelona will not organise an unveiling for Antoine Griezmann amid fears of backlash
According to Marca, in efforts to avoid controversy and protect the player, who was jeered the last time he played at the Nou Camp, the club have decided against holding an official presentation in front of supporters.
The report claims that the club have deliberately scheduled his unveiling to coincide with the relaying of the Nou Camp pitch next month, meaning no fans will be allowed inside the stands.
The nearby Mini Estadi has also been ruled out as an alternative venue to welcome Griezmann to Barcelona as it is currently hosting the Cirque du Soleil show.
Despite Barcelona’s decision not to present Griezmann, the club are reportedly confident that the France international will be accepted and become a hit with their fans.
He has been a player the club have been tracking for a considerable amount of time and looks certain to wrap up his move in coming weeks after his dropped from £180m at the start of this month.
