Prince Charles greets TV personalities as he attends the Fortnum & Mason food and drink awards

The Prince of Wales greeted some famous faces this afternoon as he attended the Fortnum & Mason food and drink awards.

Charles, 70, wore a blue pinstriped suit and striped tie to the awards where he greeted actors and TV personalities.

Shaking hands and chatting to them he met actor Stanley Tucci, Bake Off star Nadiya Hussain and comedian Jimmy Carr.

The annual awards celebrate food and drink writers and is held at Fortnum and Mason’s Piccadilly flagship store.

Charles looked like he was enjoying himself as he held a drink at the reception before the awards and met various TV personalities. 

Radio host Chris Evans looked happy to be there as he joked with the prince, while Bake Off stars and winners, including Mary Berry, also met Charles. 

He was also keen to meet those in the foodie world – including Ken Hom – a Chinese american chef and author, while Mark Hix and Angela Hartnett also attended.

This awards celebrates the best books and writers in food and drink – with categories such as debut cookery book and restaurant writer.

Other stars who joined Charles included Cold Feet Actress Fay Ripley, TV presenter Claudia Winkelman and singer Sharleen Spiteri.

Writers and restaurant critics hoping to win also attended including Melissa Hemsley – of the Hemsley and Hemsley sisters and also the Guardian’s Jay Rayner.

The Prince of Wales received the Special Award from Patrick Holden, in recognition of his commitment to supporting food and farming communities in the UK.

Prince Charles has had a busy week at various events – yesterday he met thousands of people at Buckingham palace as he attended the Queen’s garden party.

 Winners included The Great British Bake Off star, Nadiya Hussain, who scooped the Programme award for the second year running, this time for Nadiya’s Asian Odyssey produced by Wall to Wall Media. 

Mary Berry won TV Personality of The Year, the only award voted for by the public. 

Matt Goulding’s Pasta Pane Vino, an intimate portrait of Italy and its food culture, won Food Book whilst Sybil Kapoor took home Cookery Book for Sight Smell Touch Taste Sound: A New Way To Cook, based on the idea that you can transform your cooking and increase your enjoyment of food if you understand how your senses alter the perception of a dish.

Food Writer went to Clare Finney for work in Foodism and Market Life and multiple-award winner, Diana Henry, won Cookery Writer for her work in The Telegraph’s Stella magazine.

 Documentary photographer Michael Freeman and tea expert Timothy d’Offay picked up the award for Drink Book for The Life of Tea: A Journey to the World’s Finest Teas which brings tea, in all its many nuances, to life. David Nash took home the Photographer award.

Drink Writer went to Alice Lascelles for her work in FT Weekend and FT How To Spend It, whilst Marina O’Loughlin, a two-time winner, received the Restaurant Writer award for work in The Sunday Times magazine.
