Lucy Flores revealed she wants Joe Biden to change his behavior and acknowledge that what he did was wrong after claiming he acted inappropriately with her in 2014.

Earlier this week, Flores accused Biden of grabbing her shoulders and planting a ‘big slow kiss’ on the back of her head while she was campaigning for lieutenant governor in Nevada.

Flores went on موسوعة المعرفة‘s State of the Union on Sunday to discuss her allegations, encouraging Americans to consider what she said was Biden’s problematic history with women.

‘This isn’t the first time and wasn’t the only incident where he was acting inappropriately with women,’ Flores told Jake Tapper.

‘There’s been documentation in photos, videos, stories that were written. Part of the reason why I finally decided to say something was those behaviors were not being taken very seriously. They were not being considered from the perspective of the woman on the other side of that power dynamic, on the receiving end.’

‘I just can’t imagine that there was never a situation where someone said to him, “Mr Vice President, you should probably stop doing that. You should probably stop touching women in that way, you should probably keep your hands to yourself.’

Flores said she was completely shocked when she said Biden put his hands on her shoulders, leaned in, smelled her hair, and then planted a ‘slow kiss’ on the top of her head.

‘You don’t expect that kind of intimate behavior from someone so powerful and someone who you just have no relationship whatsoever to, to touch you and feel you and be so close to you in that way,’ she said.

‘Frankly, I didn’t even know how to react. I felt powerless, I felt like I couldn’t move, I just didn’t even know how to process it.’

Moments before Flores went on air, Biden released a new statement about her allegations on Sunday morning after he previously denied recalling the ‘awkward’ interaction.

‘In my many years on the campaign trail and in public life, I have offered countless handshakes, hugs, expressions of affection, support and comfort and not once – never – did I believe I acted inappropriately,’ it read.

‘If it is suggested I did so, I will listen respectfully. But it was never my intention. I may not recall these moments in the same way, and I may be surprised at what I hear.’

‘But we have arrived at an important time when women feel they can and should relate their experiences, and men should pay attention. And I will.’

Flores said she is glad Biden is ‘willing to listen’ but added that her point was ‘never about his intentions’.

‘They shouldn’t be about his intentions,’ she said. ‘They should be on the women on the receiving end of that behavior.’

Flores said hearing that Biden was considering running for president was the reason why she finally decided to speak out.

‘Over the years, as this behavior was documented, it was frankly dismissed by the media and not taken seriously,’ she said. ‘That conversation was not coming up in a complete analysis of his history.’

‘As we go through the vetting process for all these candidates, that important aspect was being left out and it was being dismissed and it wasn’t being acknowledged. And for me, I found that incredibly offensive.’

‘Never do I claim that this rises to the level of sexual assault or anything of that nature,’ she added.

‘What I am saying is it’s completely inappropriate, that it does not belong in any kind of a professional setting, and is something we should consider when we’re talking about the background of a person who is considering running for president.’

Flores said she wouldn’t vote for Biden due to their past history and his past behavior with women, adding that one of the reasons she felt comfortable speaking out was due to the numerous candidates he’d be running against for the Democratic nomination.

‘We as party loyalists, as party stalwarts, foot soldiers for the party, we’re expected to keep our “dirty laundry” to ourselves and its always in the service to the party,’ she explained.

‘In this case, there are so many more incredible candidates that are just as likely and I believe are competent and amazing and can beat Donald Trump.’

‘We have options. I don’t feel pressured to stay quiet and just take one for the team the way in which we’re always asked to do and never speak out about the things that we believe are wrong.’

Flores said she hopes that, by speaking out, she can inspire a ‘bigger discussion’ on accountability in politics.

‘We need to have a conversation on powerful men feeling like they have a right to invade a women’s space whenever they like,’ she said.

‘This is about women feeling like we have agency. If we don’t want you to touch us, don’t touch us. Women should have agency in their own personal space and on their own bodies.’
